Accordion Festival 2019 Anna Steinkogler & Valentin Butt (A/RUS) / Spaemann & Bakanic (A)

Anna Steinkogler & Valentin Butt

Valentin Butt, who was born in St. Petersburg in Berlin, and the Austrian harpist Anna Steinkogler, who also moved to Berlin, have for years cultivated a close musical relationship in which they explore the possibilities of the unusual interplay of their instruments. The duo themselves outline their artistic intentions as follows: "Like two chameleons, the two instruments adapt to each other and swap roles. It is wonderful to bathe in these contrasts of high and low, bright and dark, thin and full. Mensch comes to the conclusion that accordion and harp actually have more in common than they separate: an eventful history, an extremely varied and surprising use, an undreamt-of richness of colour".

Spaemann & Bakanic
On her debut album "Mela - The Moony Sessions", released in 2015, Marie Spaemann combined soul and jazz with a hint of classical music in a unique way, her songs unfolded an almost beguiling effect. With their congenial musical partner Christian Bakanic, the artistic possibilities expand, for example the sound of Tango Nuevo or the multi-layered traditions of European folk music, their own and adapted material almost magically blends into a sensually flowing whole.
