João Bosco (BRA)

The Brazilian singer and guitarist João Bosco is one of the heroes of Música Popular Brasileira. Discovered by Vinicius de Moraes, promoted by Tom Jobim. Bosco has composed more than 250 songs, many of which have their place in Brazilian everyday culture. Joao Bosco formed his influences of rock, jazz, African and Arabic music into a unique mixture that has become known beyond the borders of Brazil. He sings about love and carnival and at the same time denounces social grievances. His samba "O Bebado e a Equilibrista" made Elis Regina an anthem against the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 70s.

The Brazilian singer and guitarist João Bosco must be experienced live. His concert albums are therefore much more ingenious than his studio recordings. It's full of physical exertion. Bosco seems like a percussionist with guitar and voice. He presents a mixture of "Mouth-Percussion", vibrant rhythmic playing and textless singing. On the guitar he runs around in insane speed, stops abruptly, drums on the strings better than any beatbox. But he can also play very melancholic. And it is exactly this mixture that makes the João Bosco Quartet so unmistakable. (
