Karlheinz Miklin 'Following Footsteps'

At the beginning of 2021, Karlheinz Miklin decided to set up a project under his own leadership for the first time after 30 years as a musician.

The band's concept (as well as almost the entire repertoire) comes from him, and as a logical consequence of his musical career - both rock and jazz musicians with a classical past - a varied band sound results, without narrow stylistic boundaries.

To implement his musical ideas, he chose musicians with whom he had previously worked on various projects and found a special musical understanding there. They are all outstanding instrumentalists and as such have long been integral parts of the national and international jazz scene. (press release)

(...) Rock energies are also Karlheinz Miklin jr. not foreign. No wonder, since the Graz drummer has been working for the rock trio The Base for over 30 years. As part of the “Following Footsteps” project, founded in 2021, Miklin seems to be following the distinctive jazz traces left behind by his father - the saxophonist Karlheinz Miklin senior, who died in 2019, with whom the junior also played music for many years. With trumpeter Gerhard Ornig, guitarist Emiliano Sampaio and bassist Hrvoje Kralj, Miklin - the drummer - has now gathered well-known cracks from the Styrian scene around him to record his compositions with them.
