Mira Lu Kovacs (5K HD, My Ugly Clementine) and Clemens Wenger (5/8erl in Ehr'n, JazzWerkstatt Wien) devote themselves entirely to sadness. Is there anything more longing, more longing than sad songs that you sink into, swim in and sink in? Songs in which you wallow until the sadness absorbs you completely, so that it gets what it demands so relentlessly and then finally, finally lets go of you. Open the door, let the monster in. Monster rages, monster leaves.
In addition to some of their own compositions, the duo works on a selection of well-known songs from pop history, from “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk) to melancholic jazz classics à la Chet Baker such as “I’m Old Fashioned” to German-language songs such as “Hold on to your love ” (Rio Reiser). (press release)
Mira Lu Kovacs belongs to a generation of Austrian musicians who have brought a new quality to local (pop) music. On the one hand, this is probably thanks to Mira Lu Kovacs' musical background, who was trained in classical music, jazz and electronics, but on the other hand, above all, to the singer's free spirit. Virtuosity and intuition on the instrument and voice, counteracted by the directness in the lyrics that is sometimes pushed to the limit, meets with the courage to pull the existing pop appeal into the future with a certain obliqueness. In recent years, the musician has set up a lavish house with a garden on and off stage in the memory of the music-loving public.
At the age of 40, Clemens Wenger has a rich musical history as the founder and director of the JazzWerkstatt Wien, as a leader of the Viennese soul band 5/8erl in Ehr'n and as a sought-after composer and musician in projects relating to contemporary jazz, pop and electronic music . He deals with both traditional composition and instrumentation of acoustic instruments as well as progressive digital sound design. Mira Lu Kovacs and Clemens Wenger have had a long-standing collaboration. Now they can be seen together on stage with “Sad Songs To Cry To”. (press release)
