Schönbrunn Palace Ensemble

ATTENTION: FROM 08-01 TO 31-03 THE CONCERT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE WEISSGOLDZIMMER, DIRECTLY AT THE CASTLE (NO BALLET)

Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra Vienna awaits you at the fully renovated Palace Orangery where Mozart himself performed in 1786. The concert is a fine selection of masterful music by Mozart and Strauss, rounded off by dance and vocal performances.

Since the establishment of the Schoenbrunn Palace Concerts, the daily performances of the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra play an essential role in Vienna's cultural and musical life. At the Orangery Schoenbrunn, a place rich in tradition, the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra and the Schoenbrunn Chamber Ensemble perform the most beautiful tunes of the classic composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss.

On selected dates, the concerts take place in the White-and-Gold located in the main building of Schoenbrunn Palace. In this intimate setting you can experience the musical performance up close!

We would like to inform you that there will no ballet performance in the White-and-Gold-Room.

The White-and-Gold Room is situated on the ground floor of Schoenbrunn Palace. With its white-and-gold-panelled walls and varying rocaille décor it is an outstanding example of Rococo craftsmanship from the era of Maria Theresa. During the restoration in the beginning of the 2000s, fragments of the original wooden flooring displaying an elaborate geometric pattern were discovered; the new floor was subsequently based on this historical model.

In the first part, you will listen to some of the most marvelous overtures, arias and duets from the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. "Le Nozze di Figaro", "Die Zauberflöte" and "Don Giovanni" to name a few.

The most popular operetta arias, waltzes and polkas of the "Walzerkoenig" Johann Strauss - from "Die Fledermaus" and "Der Zigeunerbaron" to "Donauwalzer" and the famous "Radetzkymarsch" - comprise the second part.

Schönbrunn

Palace tour
Empress Maria Theresa made Schloss Schoenbrunn into her magnificent summer residence. All her successors resided at the palace during summer and ruled the empire from there. Especially Emperor Franz Joseph liked to spend his time at the Palace Schoenbrunn. Take a tour of the glamorous and private rooms of the emperors accompanied by an audio guide. For groups of 10 people or more a separate guide will be available to show you the apartments of Maria Theresa exclusively and outside the regular opening times of the palace.

Dinner

At the Ehrenhof ('Court of Honor'), right beside the entrance of Schloss Schoenbrunn, in the rooms of the former imperial kitchen lies the Café-Restaurant Residenz. Here, you will enjoy a three-course dinner by candlelight. In summer, dinner is served on the cozy outside dining area.

Concert

In walking distance from the main entrance to Schloss Schoenbrunn and the Café-Restaurant Residenz lies the Orangery Schoenbrunn. Since imperial times, this was a place for courtly festivities and banquets. During one of these events Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri held a unique music contest. In this historic ambience the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra performs the most beautiful works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss.

From the beginning of April to the end of October, at Christmas and at New Year's Eve, the concert will be performed by the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra in grand cast. In late autumn and in winter the concert will be performed by the Schoenbrunn Chamber Ensemble.

The Schoenbrunn Palace Orangery

The widowed Empress Wilhelmine Amalie had an orangery garden installed in Schoenbrunn with the purpose of overwintering her bitter orange plants inside a greenhouse.

Even today, concerts are held in grand old style in this historical location. Clad in historical dress, the Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra interprets the most famous works by Mozart and Strauss at the original location every evening.
