Sophie Auster Trio (USA)

She sings about strong women

Sophie Auster, the daughter of Paul Austers and Siri Hustvedts, lives herself out in music. Everything else is a matter of time.

The rehearsal begins late on this cold November evening. Sophie Auster, a petite woman in a golden brocade suit, nervously walks back and forth between stage and backstage before her concert. It is her first concert in Germany and the last on her small European tour for her third album "Dogs and Men", which was released in July.

The album, she says, was written by chance. The band One Ring Zero visited their father for a project, they got into conversation and decided to do something together. "This was the first time I sang in front of a microphone in a recording studio. But I was 16, still at school and didn't have time to write songs. Then we had the idea to make songs out of poems. At that time I read mainly surreal poetry. My father came to me and gave me his translations of French poets, which he had made when he was my age".
