For more than 10 years, the Austrian collective JBBG - JAZZ BIGBAND GRAZ has been one of Europe's leading large ensembles. Under the direction of trumpeter, singer and composer Horst-Michael Schaffer and saxophonist, flautist and composer Heinrich von Kalnein, the JBBG has developed its very own sound, combining a jazz-rock fusion with pop, minimal and world music. Their productions have taken the band to the most renowned European jazz festivals.

In 2018, Heinrich and Horst developed the idea of distilling the sound aesthetics of the big band into a quintet - "JBBG in pocket format", so to speak. Expressive and very virtuoso music with plenty of room for musical surprises and the joy of the spontaneous moment!

"Fruits of Passion & Sorrow" is the title of their latest album, which was released on December 5, 2024. In addition to the music of both band leaders, it primarily features the compositional world of the two Armenians Karen Asatrian and Arto Tunçboyacıyan.
