Paula Morelenbaum is connoisseur of Bossa Nova, for having in her curriculum the participation for ten years in the brilliant "Nova Banda" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, where she had the rich and memorable experience of coexistence as well as numerous participations in recordings and concerts in Brazil and the world, singing with the maestro.

 

After the end of the activities of the band, Paula has continued exploring the classical repertoire of Jobim + Vinicius as well as other masters of Bossa Nova, which was reflected in her beautiful works, greeted with enthusiasm by critics and audiences worldwide.

 

In 2001, their career gained international recognition with the highly acclaimed trio Morelenbaum2/Sakamoto, teaming Paula and Jaques Morelenbaum with the prominent Japanese composer/pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto. The group’s 2001 debut “Casa”, earned them plaudits from music critics throughout the world, followed by two another albums, “Live in Tokyo” and “A day in New York”. Paula Morelenbaum released in 2004, her second solo album, “Berimbaum”, a tribute to the ‘poet of Bossa Nova’, Vinicius de Moraes, framed within a modern, electro-acoustic concept.

 

In 2009 she has released the album “Telecoteco” recording Brazilian songs from the 40s and 50s - the Pre-Bossa Nova period – which presented several musical styles with a rich, talent-studded and renovating musical segment, just as Bossa-Nova itself would eventually become. This album was nominated for the 'Brazilian Music Award 2009' in the category ‘MPB - Best Album', and also for the ‘Latin Grammy’.

 

In 2010, Paula Morelenbaum released “Bossarenova” along with the arranger/pianist/producer Ralf Schmid, and the renowned SWR Big Band from Stuttgart, Germany.

 

In 2011 she has released “Paula & Donato – Agua”, featuring the meeting of the composer’s unmistakable piano with her vocals. In 2013, she released in Europe a new album: "Samba Prelúdio", with pianist Ralf Schmid and trumpeter Joo Kraus, which whom founded the “Bossarenova Trio". In 2016, Paula released the album “Paula & Jaques Morelenbaum Live in Italia Ommagio a Jobim – featuring CelloSam3aTrio.

 

In 2020, Paula Morelenbaum has released her latest album, “Atlantico”, with Ralf Schmid and Joo Kraus, the percussionists Amoy Ribas and Marcio Tubino and the bass player Guto Wirtti, important musicians of today's world musical scene. In this album, she sings the best Brazilian composers, as Jobim, Edu Lobo, Ivan Lins, João Donato, Marcos Valle, as well as a classic of French music, Que reste-t-il, by Charles Trenet. Alongside her solo albums, Paula has also participated in albums by other artists, such as Ivan Lins, Caetano Veloso, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Goro Ito,…. among others.

PORGY & BESS Jazzclub

Porgy & Bess (actually, Jazz and Music Club Porgy & Bess ) is a jazz club in the Riemergasse 11 in the 1st district of Vienna. The club , founded in 1993 is considered " the most important jazz organizer and trendy meeting point " of the Austrian capital .

The program of Porgy & Bess speaks to a very large audience , about 70,000 guests a year ; is accordingly Jazz " understood very pluralistic ," and the program " even in fringe areas , such as electronic music , contemporary music and world music penetrated .
